List Of Interesting Places In Perlis, Malaysia 

Perlis is the smallest state in Malaysia. It lies at the northern part of the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia and has the Satun and Songkhla Provinces of Thailand on its northern border. It is bordered by the state of Kedah to the south. The formal name for Perlis is Perlis Indera Kayangan. Perlis has a population of 227,02 .The capital of Perlis is Kangar and the Royal capital is Arau. Another important town is Padang Besar, at the Malaysian-Thailand border. The main port and ferry terminal is at the small village of Kuala Perlis, linking mostly to Langkawi Island. Perlis has a famous snake farm and research centre at Sungai Batu Pahat, and Gua Kelam and Perlis State Park are tourist attractions.





Masjid Terapung Al-Hussain

Floating Mosque also has twin peaks tower hexagonal or hexagon first in the world. The construction is symbolic that all humans are descended from Adam and Eve. It was unique because, at every time in prayer time, a beam of light with a specific color such as red, blue, white and green are lit, thus giving an indication to the fishermen in the sea that was in the time of prayer, as well as a guide to the fishermen land buried deep in the sea. The colors are also graced the twin towers of the mosque. Blue lights indicate the Fajr and Maghrib and Isha prayers in green. The tower can be seen from a distance of 10 kilometers.



Kuala Perlis

Kuala Perlis is the main port in the state of Perlis, located extreme northwest in Peninsular Malaysia. It's a fishing town, located just 13km off Kangar. Overview, Kuala Perlis is a fishing town located at the estuary of Perlis River, the visit to the town will not be complete without tasting the local seafood dishes. Since Kuala Perlis Jetty is the main jetty connecting to Phuket (Thailand) and Langkawi Island, many visitors decided to stop by to look around the fishing town while tasting the freshest local seafood. Apart from seafood, Kuala Perlis is also well known for its famous 'Laksa (noodle in milk curry)'.

One of the attractions in town is the opportunity to see some old buildings and mosques, built on stilts over mangrove swamp. Though it's a small fishing town, there is much to offers for recreation. For nature's lover, you can head down to the Perlis state park where you can enjoy bird watching, kayaking and even caving. It's also well known for shopping paradise, and since Perlis is sharing the border with Thailand, you can get many local and Thailand products at a bargain price. Padang Besar is the favorite shopping spot for both locals and visitors from both countries, Malaysia and Thailand. Of cause you can learn more of the state history by visiting the Perlis State Museum.





Taman Ular Dan Reptilia / The Snake and Reptile Farm

The Snake and Reptile Farm in Perlis is the only Snake Farm ever built in Malaysia. The farm is the major tourist attraction not only in Perlis, but the entire country, Malaysia. The main objective of the establishment of the Snake and Reptile Farm is to aid in the research in the production of anti - venom for local consumption by the Institute of Medical Research in Malaysia. It was established with a showcase of about 200 snakes of 34 different species from Malaysia and also the other parts of the world including King Cobra and python. Out of the 34 species, there are a total of 10 species that is poisonous. Reptiles that are to be seen lying around in the farm are crocodiles, monitor lizards and iguanas. The farm can be divided into two major parts, one with open air enclosures and a closed exhibit. For those brave hearted persons, you can have a picture or two with safe snakes coiling on your arm or shoulder under the assistance of the handlers and professionals in the farm.





Kota Kayang Museum / Muzium Kota Kayang

Kota Kayang Museum is located around Kayang Hill, Lambong Panah Hill and Menara Hill in Kayang vicinity, the oldest man-made canal in Peninsular Malaysia. Overview. it has a very long and rich history before it finally became a museum in 1991. This 4.84 hectare land which the museum currently stands belonged to Syed Salim as a gift from Raja Syed Alwi. At the end of 19th century, Syed Salim built his residence and stayed with his family until it was sold to the state government. After that, the building becomes the official residence of British Advisors. During the Japanese occupation, the house became the Military Administration until 1945, where the Thai Military Government took over

After independence, the government of Perlis took over and became the official residence to Chief Minister. Finally in 1991, the building was demolished and rebuilt, to be structurally identical to the previous building and converted it to a museum. The museum houses Islamic artifact, Perlis/Kedah craft and item belonging to the royal family. Hotels in Perlis are not luxurious, but suffice to provide a comfort rest with basic necessity.




Padang Besar

Padang Besar is a border town in the north of Perlis, the northern-most state in Malaysia. The Padang Besar border crossing is the only direct rail link between Malaysia and Thailand, and a quieter and less direct road crossing than Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah. The town on the Thai side of the border, in Songkhla province, is also called Padang Besar - however Malaysians differentiate between the two by calling the Thai town "Pekan Siam" or "Siamese Town". 

Much more tame and sanitized than its Thai counterpart, Malaysia's Padang Besar still attracts many Malaysians who come to shop for items imported from Thailand which are available in abundance at lower prices. The town is a "shopping heaven" and popular destination for Malaysians because of the duty-free shopping complex in between the border checkpoints of the two countries. The town attracts several thousand visitors from Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand every weekend and public holiday.





Melati Lake/ Tasik Melati 

Melati Lake is a small lake with shallow water and very interesting. More than 150 sandbar islands can be seen scattered ditasik this. Footpaths have been built across the lake to enable visitors to enjoy the wonderful scenery, along footpaths also provided a rest. Melati Lake is located north of the City of Kangar, Perlis. It is a small but beautiful lake. It got its name through a lotus flower floating on the water. This man-made lake a favorite for people to picnic, and also quite appropriate discretion to unwind.





Chuping Sugar Cane Plantation / Ladang Tebu Chuping 

Chuping is a small town located not far from Kangar, the capital state of Perlis in Northern Peninsular Malaysia. Being adjacent to Thailand border, you will see many cross influence of Thai in the town. The main scenery of Chuping is endless plantations, taking about 22,000 hectares of rubber estate and Malaysia's largest sugarcane plantation. 

Being a small town in Perlis, Chuping has its own uniqueness. It has a view of edgeless sugarcane plantations, covering more than 22,000 hectares of land, making it the largest sugarcane plantation in Malaysia. The Chuping Sugar Cane Plantation is located at the foot hill of Bukit Chuping and was formed as a joint venture of three organizations, namely the Felda Plantation Sdn Bhd, PPB Group Berhad and Syarikat Kilang Gula Felda Perlis in 1971. The sugarcane factory produces 5,500 metric tonnes of sugarcane per day during harvesting season and it's open to public for visits and to learn more about sugarcane processing and making.





Timah Tasoh Lake / Tasik Timah Tasoh 

Timah Tasoh Lake is located 17km north of Kangar town, county Beseri and can be reached by two roads namely Jalan Kangar - Padang Besar and Jalan Abi - Padang Besar. Lake Tin Tasoh is a name taken from the confluence of two major rivers that pass through this area in the past, namely Sungai Timah and Sungai Tasoh. Lake Tin Tasoh construction began in 1987 and was completed in 1992. The purpose of this dam is a center for rainwater harvesting in Perlis. This artificial lake is very beautiful and is a fan of anglers to fishing. In addition, the lake is also a transit point a group of birds in winter. Here are a few blocks of apartments, chalets




Recreational Forest Ayer Hill / Pusat Rekreasi Bukit Air

Bukit Ayer located in Sungai Batu Pahat , Perlis . In accordance with the freshness and fertility environment greenery and cool waterfalls, Bukit Ayer equipped to serve as a magnet for those who really love nature. It is the best place for visitors to camp activities and family picnics here . In addition there are also utilities available to facilitate visitors who come here is located 12 km from Kangar . Some of the facilities provided for such an information center , chalets , camping grounds , children 's playground and parking facilities . To reach this forest visitors can use their own vehicles or public transportation such as buses or taxis from the city of Jayapura. Waterfalls and crystal clear streams flowing naturally beautify the atmosphere . At the downstream to it is a beautiful swimming pool for visitors .Here also designated campsites that accommodate around 100 participants are equipped with a stove and a source of clean water . For those who love outdoor activities there are trails that can be used for these purposes. There are also children's play area , food stalls , bathrooms , prayer and rest huts .




Taman Negeri Perlis / Perlis State Park

The park is located in the limestone ranges of the country's longest, dubbed Nakawan Range. Nakawan Range has a thick wooded slope, surface vertical cliffs, streams and extensive cave systems as well as beautiful. Some of the major attractions in Perlis State Park including Dim Cave and Gua Wang Burma which is located within the Setul. Was there limestone formation there was 500 years old. Park consists of Mata Ayer Forest Reserve and Wang Mu Forest Reserve with total area of about 5000 hectares. The park is home to wildlife such as monkeys and there are plants such as ginger, ferns and balsam plants. Visitors can stay in hostels and chalets or camping in the area provided.





Gua Kelam / Kelam Cave 

located about 33 km north of Kangar, the capital of Perlis state, near to a small town called Kaki Bukit (Foot Hill). It shares the border with Nakawan Range of Thailand. One of the most unique caves in Malaysia as it's a 370-metre long limestone cave where it's famous for its 'cave walk'. It's among the favorites cave for the adventure seekers. You will enter from one end of the cave and come out at a different location. The only path in is via a wooden suspension bridge measuring 8 ft wide walkway. The hollow limestone path is believed to be the idea of an Englishman that converted this cave as a method of transporting tin from a mine near the stream entrance of Kaki Bukit. Today the walk path is brightly illuminated, where you can still find remnants of time mine operation inside. The sound of squeaking bat and dripping water from the stalactites may be soothing for some and spooky for others!
